The investigative work sought to understand how riverside families develop the educational process in childhood, using traditional knowledge, through orality. The objective was to map the knowledge in the actions of childhood care actions within the family and community, in order to understand the knowledge involved in the role of parents and close relatives. The methodology is anchored in the qualitative approach with the use of ethnographic research, for over two years (2021 and 2022), in the riverside regions of the Amazon, territory of water communities located in the State of Amapá and islands of Pará. The data was discussed by through content analysis. The results indicate that traditional knowledge is embedded in the entire process of caring for children, especially in relation to very young children. Traditional knowledge reveals an action of human formation, through non-formal education that enables the construction of ethical and moral values in coexistence with older people in riverside communities.
