Abstract

This paper discusses the emergence of hermeneutic phenomenology, highlighting the debate surrounding metaphysics in the first decades of the 20th century. It was the set of ideas that Heidegger presented in the 1920s that would provide a response to the promises made by philosophers who announced the resurgence of metaphysics. That is, Heidegger emerged as the central figure who would listen to the voice of those who spoke in metaphysics. To understand the context and meaning of Heidegger’s project, it is necessary to take it in contrast
with Husserlian transcendental phenomenology, as well as interpret the metaphysics resulting from phenomenology as Aristotle’s second path.

Author Biography

Ernildo Stein, Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

Graduated in Philosophy from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1964), Law degree from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1965) and PhD in Philosophy from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1968). Post-doctoral studies at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg (1969-1972), the Free University of Berlin (1981), the University of Freiburg (1989) and others in Germany. He was a professor at UFRGS, later at PUCRS, where he coordinated the research group Language and Hermeneutics, along with the Graduate Program in Philosophy - Master’s and Doctorate.
