Abstract

This work develops an immanent critique of Schelling’s philosophy, grounded in problems raised implicitly or explicitly by Hegelian dialectics. However, it is not limited to an external comparison between the two authors; it also involves an investigation that confronts Schelling’s project with its own internal demands for systematicity, analyzing the extent to which these demands were met. Our focus lies on the contrast between young Schelling, whose project centers around a far-reaching philosophy of nature, and intermediate Schelling, who takes his sui generis “dialectic” to its ultimate consequences, thereby positioning himself both below and beyond Hegel.
