Abstract

Aims: To evaluate the presence of late potentials in the signal-averaged electrocardiogram (SAECG) of patients with the indeterminate form of Chagas’ disease. Methods: Forty four consecutive healthy blood donors and 59 refused candidates to blood donation because of positive tests for Chagas’ disease were submitted to SAECG. Results: Among controls, 15 (34.1%) had late potentials present, whereas 13 (22.5%) patients with the indeterminate form of Chagas’ disease had abnormal SAECG (p=0.23). Conclusions: Blood donors with the indeterminate form of Chagas’ disease do not present late potentials in the SAECG in a proportion significantly different when compared to controls.
