Abstract

Aims: To review the medical literature about the possibility of any association between the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and an increase in the incidence of nephropathy induced by contrast. Source of data: Search for articles in the data base PubMed/Medline. Summary of the findings: The research demonstrated that there is no observational study or clinical trial that stand the association between the use of non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs and nephropathy induced by contrast. There are only anecdotal reports in the midst of review articles, which include non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs as nephrotoxic drugs. Reviewing the mechanisms of kidney injury induced by the use of contrast media and the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, there seems to be no reason to believe in a synchronism that lead to kidney damage. Conclusions: There is a lack of evidence in the indexed medical literature to support the assertion that non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs would be a risk factor for the development of nephropathy induced by contrast. possui graduação em Medicina pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1995), graduação em Medicina pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1995) e mestrado em Medicina e Ciências da Saúde. pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (2002). Atualmente é professor assistente da Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul, outro (especifique) do Hospital Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes e preceptor do Hospital São Lucas da Pucrs. Tem experiência na área de Medicina, com ênfase em Medicina Interna, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: angina, avaliação, emergência, infarto e mortalidade.
