Development of shadow Moiré technique as an alternative low-cost method for postural evaluation [Abstract in English]
Abstract
Objective: This paper aims to present the development of an alternative, reliable and non-expensive technique to x-ray that might be used to evaluate human posture and its related problems. Methods and materials: This method is based on a type of Moiré technique that utilizes shadows to define different image patterns. Three prototypes were conceived, developed, tested and evaluated with the objective to standardize some important variables related to this technique.
Results: Tests performed with the first and the second prototypes produced preliminary results, which were essential for the development of the final prototype that has allowed a higher quality visualization of the dorsal portion of the thoracic region of the volunteer. The accuracy of this third prototype was established through its calibration. The standard deviation of the calibration process was 0.051, indicating a very low variation among the fringes.
Conclusion: It is believed that this study will motivate the utilization of this alternative, low-cost technique in the evaluation of human posture and associated diseases.
KEY WORDS: MOIRE TOPOGRAPHY; POSTURE; COST SAVINGS.
