Abstract

Coparenting is a family subsystem composed of a dyad of caregivers, who are co-responsible for providing protection, security, emotional and physical support to the needs of their children. In recent decades, there has been a considerable increase in research relating coparenting with children’s development. However, the measurement of this phenomenon in Brazil is still incipient. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the psychometric properties of the Coparenting Inventory for Parents and Adolescents (CI-PA) in a mother’s sample. 221 mothers of adolescents participated in this study (M = 15.46 years and SD = 1.52). A sociodemographic questionnaire and the Brazilian Portuguese version of the CI-PA were applied to this sample in online format. Confirmatory factor analyses, reliability test by Cronbach’s alpha and correlation analyzes were performed to identify these properties. The conducted analyzes suggest that CI-PA has appropriate psychometric properties for clinical and research utilization of the instrument in Brazil.
