Abstract

This article intends to discuss the political dimension in the origin of Axel Honneth’s theory of recognition, based on the fact that during the reworking of his habilitation thesis, published in 1992 under the title The struggle for recognition, the author take a stand for the first time in the debate between liberals and communitarians and introduces a formal conception of ethical life as a response to the limitations of each of these currents of contemporary political theory.
