Abstract

The objective of this work was to know the variables presented in the application of Clock Drawing Test (CDT) in octogenarians and nonagenarians. We describe here resulted of a carried through tax cross-sectional study with aged of equal or superior age the 80 years, resident in the city of Siderópolis, S.C, Brazil (n=135) at the period of may to December of 2005. The research worked with a questionnaire and cognitive tests as the Clock Drawing Test, Mini Mental Scale Examination (MMSE), Verbal Fluency and Geriatric Depression Scale. The CDT was realized by 65 of 132 participants. The general mean in CDT was 4.5. The study showed that CDT wasn’t a good screening test of dementia in individuals with more than eighty years old and with low educational level. The low significance between CDT and others screening tools, specially MMSE, demonstrates this fact.
