Abstract

In this paper, intercultural conflicts less problematized nowadays in the public debate, as those observed between China and the Ocident, gets relevance justly because could be seen in unusual settings, such as the assertions made by one of the most influents Brazilian journalists covering issues related to ‘information society’. Strongly inspired in the cybernetics ideals, the concept of ‘communication society’ reveals, in that assertions, a conservative and heterophobic tone, despite the hegemonic claims supporting an alleged cosmopolitism made possible by that medias.

Author Biography

Cláudio Cordovil Oliveira, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro

Pesquisador em Saúde Pública (Fiocruz). Mestre (2004) e Doutor (2009) em Comunicação e Cultura pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). Possui Pós-Doutorado em Comunicação e Informação em Ciência, Tecnologia e Saúde pela Fiocruz (2010-2011). É Bacharel em Jornalismo e Editoração (Estácio/1982). Cursou parte de seu doutorado no Centro de Estudos Sociais (CES) da Universidade de Coimbra (Portugal), na modalidade bolsa-sanduíche (2007/2008), onde, sob co-orientação do Dr. João Arriscado Nunes, investigou a relação entre as novas tecnologias de informação e comunicação e a construção identitária de portadores de doenças raras (distrofias musculares).
