Abstract

WHAT IS THE SELF? Is there in fact one? Philosophy and scholars have for long addressed the subject. Brilliant brains devoted themselves to it. Rich discussions. Little consensus. Colloquial language, on the other hand, reveals to us that the profane philosophers also did not give up on the discussion. A fact that brings this reflection far beyond the walls of the academy. Away from university fiefs, discordance insists on ruling. It is possible to suppose, without attachment to coherence, a definitive self as well as a fleeting one, which is just ceasing to be. When confessions are made, thus, popular sayings such as "I like you as you are" and "you're not the same anymore" are proclaimed.
