Social research and its contributions to the development of interventions in public and private institutions.

Universities have played an increasingly important role in conducting basic or applied research with the aim of analyzing social problems present in the daily lives of institutions, organizations, groups, communities, and individuals, focusing on formulating interventions capable of driving change. While basic research is characterized by analyzing social phenomena without concern for solving specific problems, applied research foresees, from the beginning, practical contributions based on the knowledge generated. Although a distinction is made between these two types of academic research, they are not mutually exclusive, since basic research can equally offer answers to practical everyday problems, just as knowledge gained in applied research can contribute to the development of new theories. To bring together in this issue some of these contributions, we invite studies carried out in academia, both from basic and applied research, that make use of empirical data, and that seek to generate knowledge aimed at the development of interventions in public and private institutional contexts. Of particular interest are studies that evaluate the impacts of public policies in the most diverse areas (health, education, social assistance, environment), as well as research that analyzes social phenomena (safety, violence, gender, migration), and which, based on their results, propose interventions, whether within public or private organizations. Submissions will be received, evaluated, and published at any time, in a continuous flow in the 2023 and 2024 editions of Revista Conversas & Controvérsias. The deadline for submitting manuscripts is April 30, 2024.
