Abstract

The aim of this work is to investigate the relations among the following categories in the work environment: social inclusion, citizenship and identity. In order to reflect on social inclusion, we present the exclusion patterns found in the work environment, and we theoretically demonstrate how an inclusion opportunity takes place through the affirmative action of these groups: women, afro-descendents and those undermined by age or physical disabilities. Through the reinforcement of the identities of these people, starting from an initiative of the civil society, these groups can raise their issues, concerning their working life, to the public, Estate and other non-governmental institutions. Thus, we demonstrate the joining of civil action and identity in the pursuit of better life and work standards and the new relations which result from that, leading to a distinguished citizenship. Key words: Social inclusion; Citizenship; Identity; Work relations.
