Readings of the country from the perspective of António Vieira in Inês Pedrosa’s A Eternidade e o desejo

Abstract

Narrating a travel, Inês Pedrosa’s A Eternidade e o desejo (2008), is the intimate discourse and immersion of the protagonist Clara in her personal memory, affected by the retelling of sermons by António Vieira. We will analyze the dialogue of the text with formal elements of environmental novels and travel narratives and how these formats are problematized in the novel, linking to the discussion about Brazil, physical, cultural and affective territory “deciphered” by the described journey.
