Abstract

In this article, we reflect on António Lobo Antunes’ work in the light of Discourse Analysis, especially drawing upon the concept of paratopia as an insightful basis to appreciate the autobiographical dimension of this Portuguese author’s books (autobiographical dimension admitted by the author himself). Thus, on the one hand, we will use the novels “Memória de elefante”, “Conhecimento do inferno” and “Os cus de Judas”, which make up the initial trilogy of Antunes’ career. On the other hand, we will rely on interviews by the writer, to the extent that such statements make the autobiographical components of the books explicit. All the journalistic material consulted was collected by two recent works, namely, the volumes organized by Blanco (2001) and Arnaut (2008).
