Abstract

Úrsula is a novel that was published in 1859, by Maria Firmina dos Reis, a maranhese, poor and Afro-American writer. This book is the first introspective novel in the Portuguese language that brings the characters’ feelings and sensations to beyond the chronologic time. The narrator main feature is to create characters who talk with each other during the narrative and by doing it she brings the streaming of consciousness to the text. This happens while the narrator tries to organize the expectation of the readers.
