This article aims to analyze the arising innovations in the field of literary historiography in opposition to what traditionally has been done. My focus is to reflect on how could alternative ways of literary history be incorporated in order to consider literary texts, authors and/or events in a more complex form than the habitual division by genres. To do this, we analyzed the experiments of contemporary literary historiography A New Literary History of America (2009), edited by Greil Marcus and Werner Sollors; A New History of German Literature (2004), published by David Welberry; and A New History of French Literature (1989), edited by Denis Hollier. The analysis was based on foundations of post modern architecture theory and its critique of the relationship between form and function. It was intended to demonstrate the need for a renewal in literary historiography.
