The CARS Model (Swales) and metadiscourse: a study using introductions of dissertation or thesis

This paper describes a study of eight introductions of dissertations produced in different areas at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, using as theoretical support the model proposed by Swales (1990) and notions of metadiscourse proposed by Crismore (1989). The main purpose is to analyzes what are the strategies used by the author at the time of establishing the first contact with the reader.Downloads
