Abstract

Purposes: To determine what are the analytical methods of A1C used in clinical analysis laboratories from Serra Gaucha and which ones are certified by National Glycohemoglobin Standardization Program (NGSP).
Methods: Data related to A1C dosage method were colected and the make of kit used, as well as if the test was carried out in their own laboratory or in outsourced laboratories. The proceedings were classified according to the certification or not by NGSP.
Results: In a sample of 15 laboratories, 73,3% carried out the tests in their dependencies and 26,7% send their samples to outsourced laboratories. Only 46,6% of laboratories have used methods certified by NGSP.
Conclusions: Most laboratories don’t use methods certified by NGSP. In those cases the results can’t be directly related with the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT) study.
KEY WORDS: HEMOGLOBIN A, GLYCOSYLATED/analysis; CLINICAL LABORATORY TECHNIQUES/methods; DIABETES MELLITUS, TYPE II/prevention & control; BLOOD GLUCOSE.
