Abstract

Starting from the approach of Durand, who takes the symbol as “epiphany of a mystery”, in this article we analyze possibilities of the symbolic experience in the midst of the diagnosis of emptying of images in the media society. Thus, we suggest that the phenomenon of offensive images, in several cases, provokes attitudes and behaviors proper to the symbolic environment, stressing the mediational character of the image. Thus, we propose a sutudy of tje demonizationof the Other through images. To do so, we also draw on the theoretical contributions of Mitchell, Belting, Baitello Jr and Han.
