Pathemic strategies in divisive speeches: interfaces between a neuroscience and a semiolinguistic

This article explores some assumptions of the semiolinguistic of Charaudeau (2009, 2010, 2011, 2016), in order to put them in interface with knowledge about the emotions, (Damásio, 2000; Ekman, 2011; Maturana, 2009) and the systemic dialogism (Bateson, 1987; Watzlawick and others, 2007). The objective is to identify and analyze the correspondences between the pathemic discoursive visas and the emotional drives that constitute the pragmatics of human communication. It was believed that such interfaces can throw a systemic view of the phenomenon of divisive discourses (Benesch, 2012). The corpus of analysis consists of an MBL post published on Facebook about the murder of Rio de Janeiro city councilor Marielle Franco. The research is descriptive, bibliographical, with a qualitative approach. As a result, the discursive strategies categorized by Charaudeau find correlates between the homeostatic functions of Damásio (2000) emotions, launching new insights on the efficacy and viral effect of divisive discourses.
