Abstract

This paper examines whether a modernist political theory of the cinema (as developed by the magazines Cinéthique, Cahiers du Cinéma and Screen during the period 1968-70, combining semiotics, marxism and psychoanalysis) is still capable of sustaining relevant positions for debate.
