Abstract

This lecture examines the history of Brazilian communication studies. It stresses its internal conflicts, intellectual challenges, identity, and institutional process of legitimation, as well as the international recognition of the communication field; and, most importantly, it gives an idea of the consolidation of the field within the Brazilian academic environment.
