Abstract

Marshall McLuhan finished the presentation of his work on the effects of the media in education and passed the word to the audience. Sociologist Robert Merton volunteered. "His presentation is so chaotic that I do not know where to start," he said. McLuhan was not begged. "You do not like this idea? I have others", said the Canadian. The author of The Media as Extensions of Man, War and Peace in the Global Village, The Gutenberg Galaxy and the Middle is the message, among others, was like this: controversial, polemist.
