Little prince or little prince? A linguistic-cultural interface from the functionalist perspective

Abstract

In the light of the functionalist theory of Christiane Nord (1991), this article aims to analyze linguistic cultural markers in the translations of Le petit prince (1946) for Brazilian Portuguese, titled The Little Prince (2003), and for European Portuguese, titled O Little prince (2008). Considering that translation is a communicative situation in which two cultural contexts are involved - from the source text and the recipient - the result must be a functional text for its context of reception and suited to the purposes of the translation task.

Bianca Cristina Buse, Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina

Licenciada em Letras Português pela Universidade Federal do Paraná (2008). Tem experiência na área de Letras, com ênfase em Língua Portuguesa e Literatura. Atualmente, é mestranda do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Literatura da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, com pesquisa na área de Leitura de Literatura no Ensino Médio.

Mestranda em Estudos da Tradução pela UFSC. Pesquisa os temas: tradução jornalística, tradução e cultura, português brasileiro e europeu.
