Abstract

This paper accomplishes a study about media languages: it makes a comparative analysis of O Primo Basílio romance fragment, by Eça de Queirós, and its adaptation into the cinema, the homonymous film of the Director Daniel Filho, analyzing the transcodification process from the literary narrative language to the cinematographic language. We aims to accomplish a reading that seeks comprehend the meaning of some primordial factors of the Romanesque structure: the details- the sofa, the divan, the ambient illumination, the objects color – in the romance and in the film. The study will focus the analysis of aspects that help to verify how the configuration of choices in the literary speech was, seen as starting point, and transposed into another configuration, the film. The intertextual dialogue in the narrative speech will be evidenced through theoric basis supported in several authors of the cinematographic and narrative theory. The omnipresence of the mass culture in the contemporaneous life can be made as an instrument for the work of transformation people and relations with life, from approaches, between the two focused languages, that move to new knowledge.
