The modern and the contemporary authors: a historical review on the concept of authorship in the west

The contemporary art is open. An infinite project, spatially and temporally, widespread and written by multiple authors. Many theorists consider what became known as the hypermidiatic revolution a milestone for the democratization of information. However, this “revolution” does not represent at all a historical disruption of the roles of reader and writer over the text. Using the work of Michel Foucault, “What is an author?”, and Roger Chartier’s homonym critic as its foundations, this article aims to discuss and analyze the concept of authorship built from a political and social context, looking from the perspective of the longue durée historical theory.
