PHILOSOPHY AND LITERATURE IN DIALOGUE: BENEDITO NUNES’ CRITICISM AND GADAMER’S HERMENEUTICS

Abstract

This paper aims to understand the literary criticism of the important Brazilian philosopher Benedito Nunes, by comparing it with Gadamer’s hermeneutics. The first part is about the relation between the literary criticism and the philosophy in his work, considering the particularity of his philosophical interpretation of literature. It doesn’t proceed by the mechanic identification of the thought that inspires certain literary work, but by the philosophical recognition of the poetic dimension of the language, as revealer of the world. The second part is dedicated to the development of certain central concepts of Gadamer’ hermeneutics, as play, dialogue, linguisticity, and truth event, related to the philosophical interpretation of the artistic work.

Victor Sales Pinheiro (PUCRJ), PUC-RIO

Mestrando em Filosofia Antiga na PUC-RIO, com dissertação sobre a República de Platão. Desde 2006, coordena as atividades do filósofo e crítico literário Benedito Nunes no Centro de Cultura e Formação Cristã (CCFC) em Belém, Pará. De Benedito Nunes organizou e apresentou os seguintes livros (ainda no prelo): "A clave do poético" (Cia das Letras), "Ensaios Filosóficos" (Martins Fontes), "Heidegger" (Martins Fontes), "Modernismo, Estética e Cultura" (Ed.34) e "Do Marajó ao arquivo: breve panorama da cultura no Pará" (ED.UFPA). É organizador, junto com Luiz Costa Lima, do livro "O pensamento poético - homenagem a Benedito Nunes" (Azougue Editorial) e, junto com Célia Jacob, da Revista Asas da Palavra n.25, edição em homenagem a Benedito Nunes (Ed.UNAMA - Universidade da Amazônia), ambos no prelo. Publicou o ensaio "O deserto e as raízes: notas para uma crítica da crise da cultura" no livro "As cidades, as culturas e seus desafios: o CCFC na Amazônia" (ED.USC/CCFC). Áreas de interesse: filosofia antiga, hermenêutica e crítica literária.
