Abstracts ideas in Hume: the simple and the relation
Abstract
In his analysis of the issue of abstract ideas, presented specially by Treatise, Hume, in his own words, assigned himself to develop Berkeley's thesis that abstraction is the result of general meaning assumed by a particular idea when linked to a general term. On this way, he attemps to justify this linkage by the habit, causing the issue of abstract ideas to become a theme related to his philosophy´s singular associationism. Thus, Hume's theory of abstraction provide us bases to discern toward some problems of that associationism, being this article´s goal to show them, besides drafting some of its consequences, specially, that refering to humean distinction between natural and philosophical relations.Downloads
