Abstract

In this second chapter (for the first one, see Intuitio, 1/1 (2008), p. 125-9), Thomas Aquinas teaches that there are three principles of nature: matter, form and privation. These principles are divided in two groups: one, form, is that towards which generation is aimed; the other two, matter and privation, are that from which generation is. After that, Thomas Aquinas writes about 1) the relations among the principles; 2) the distinction between necessary and non-necessary accidents; 3) the distinction between privation and negation; 4) and finally the definition of prime matter. KEY WORDS: Thomas Aquinas. Principles of Nature. Medieval Cosmology.
