Abstract

This article studies the discourse logic of Ultima Hora newspaper, from Porto Alegre City (1960-1964), by acknowledging the presence of two relatively interdependent principles: fiction and the marvelous. Many signs of that presence are identified through the analysis of police news stories. Both principles contribute to realize that the periodical’s verbal expression may be associated with the fulfillment of common sense discourse in the written press.
