Gaúcho and gaucho: comparative sócio-economic and demographic change in Rio Grande do Sul and Buenos Aires Province, 1869-1920

Cambios socioeconómícos y demográfícos muy complejos transformaron las sociedades rurales de Rio Grande de Sul y Ia provincia de Buenos Aires durante los anos 1869 a 1920. 10s estancíeros argentinos gozaban de mas poder político en el nivel nacional que los riograndenses - una diferencia central gu~ influía basicamente el desarrollo económico rural de Ias dos regiones. Pero Ias dos sociedades pastorales mostraban semejanzas de cultura, tenencia de Ia tierra, migración, y cambios demográficos durante esa época de modernización econômica. La teoria de Ia trangícíón demográfica ofrece un instrumento útil de interpretar esos cambios. :EI ensayo aplica Ia teoria con una metodologia comparativa utilizando una base de datos censales de 1869 a 1920;Downloads
