Abstract

Basque emigration to Uruguay reached its higest top during the XIXth century. One of the results of this process was the appearance of Basque associative entities, on the last quarter of the century. In this article, we analize their developpment from their original purpouse of mutualism to a growing politization, specially after the extension of Basque nationalism’s ideology among American Basques in the first two decades of XXth century.
