Abstract

This article analyzes the representation of “sertão” (Brazilian colonial frontier), built by the baroque imaginary of sugar cities in the 16th and 17th centuries. Our sources are Gabriel Soares de Souza and Ambrósio Fernandes Brandão,s writings.
