Abstract

The present paper compares the contributions of Jose Gaos (1900-1969), Spanish philosopher exiled in Mexico, and Francisco Romero (1891-1962), Argentinian philosopher of Spanish descent, for defining the Latin American intellectual movement of History of Ideas around 1940. The intention is to demonstrate how both philosophers would start a broad and intensive production, organization, guidance, encouragement and dissemination of the study of history of ideas independently and in parallel, initially restricted to the scope of their respective countries.
