Abstract

The world is not one world, but several worlds differentiated according to the indicators of human development: longevity, education and standard of living. The desire of all countries in the world is to improve on these indices of human development and that should be indicative of a better life for individuals and l lead to a better world for all. The argument is made that education is key to such improvement, and that computer technology is a major tool to provide access to basic education for all. Such an education should have as its outcome the well being of individuals and communities. The educational programme should include, at a minimum, critical literacies (reading, numeracy and technology), general academic subjects, civic and moral education, leisure activities and enterprise education.
