Perspectives on sustainable consumption: analysis of the relationship between domestic daily practices and sustainability
Keywords:
Sustainable Consumption. Sustainability. Consumer Culture. Consumption Practices.Abstract
Based on the analysis of the daily practices people engage in routinely, this study aims at understanding where and when sustainable consumption occurs, as well as its motivations and inhibitors. Following an interpretive approach, combining different qualitative methods with middle and lower classes in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre, this research shows that (a) people don’t relate their daily practices to environmental impact, (b) sustainable consumption is usually related to losses of well-being and (c) the motivations towards sustainability are linked to self-benefits.
