Abstract

This paper is a historical ethnography of a medium sized Chilean family firm. The work shows how the enterprise’s family capital control, organized around a lineage, has helped the firm to compete fairly in the corporation oriented globalized Chilean economy. The paper is also about the owner’s family history in the context of Chilean economic development, providing a diachronic ethnography that shows the relations between economic development, the firm and the family.

Marisol Pérez Lizaur, Universidad Iberoamericana

estudió la licenciatura, la maestría y el doctorado (1994) en Antropología Social en la Universidad Iberoamericana de la ciudad de México. Actualmente es profesora investigadora en la misma universidad. Su campo de especialidad es el parentesco urbano, la empresa y los empresarios, especialmente familiares. Sus publicaciones recientes: Con Tania Arce, El programa de posgrado en antropología social de la Universidad Iberoamericana, para ser publicado en Historia de las instituciones de antropología en México.
