Historiography of Brazilian architecture in the XIX century and the style and typology concepts

Abstract

The present article analyses he concepts of style and type, by examining its structural differences – the historical and geographical base of style as opposed to the relation between formal solution, genre and function concerning type – and attempts to show the operationality of both in the critical reevaluation of the artistic production of the 21st century.
