In spite of being almost unknown, the Colombian intellectual Juan García del Río (1794-1856) carried out a wide variety of activities and research in Latin America. His admiration for Simón Bolivar made him go beyond his territorial limits and contribute to the construction of national-states as Perú, Chile
and Colombia, directly collaborating with important figures as Andrés Bello, Bernardo O’Higgins and José de San Martín. The significance and representation of this author allows us to live and feel great moments in the emancipating processes of the continent and the intellectuals belonging to the Latin-American culture of the XIX Century, contributing a critical reading to the political and social matters of our time.
