Semantic and conceptual blocks: from language to concepts
Abstract: In this paper, we will introduce some elements that favor an analysis of concepts that differs from representational approaches, by generalizing the principles of a linguistic theory, the Semantic Blocks Theory (SBT), which conceives linguistic meaning as involving causal and contrastive connections. Our main goal is the enlargement of this vision of linguistic meaning to that of concepts. Based on some evidence of non-linguistic manifestations of concepts, we will redefine the internal structure of concepts and discuss the nature of their function.
