Brief History of the Journal
The journal Letras de Hoje, published by the Graduate Program in Letters at PUCRS, was established in 1967. The collective initiative was led by Ir. Elvo Clemente, Plínio Cabral, and Leonor Scliar Cabral. For some time, the Journal received sponsorship from notable figures of Rio Grande do Sul’s society, such as Paulo Vellinho and José Octávio Bertaso (Livraria do Globo), among others, and several issues were also funded by CNPq. It later began to be published by EDIPUCRS, and under the leadership of Brother Joaquim Clotet, Letras de Hoje reached a growing number of readers by being made available in electronic format.

Peer Review Process
Once a submission’s admissibility is confirmed, two expert reviewers in the subject area are invited to issue reports that will support the editors in reaching the final decision. Publication is conditioned upon compliance with reviewers’ recommendations. The evaluation considers the originality of the topic, the consistency and rigor of the approach, its contribution to the field, and its alignment with the journal’s thematic line. The review system is double-blind: reviewers’ identities remain confidential, and authors’ names are withheld from reviewers. Reviewers are expected to be objective in their evaluation. If any conflict of interest arises or if the reviewer is unable to provide an unbiased judgment, they must contact the editors. Reviewers are encouraged to indicate relevant literature not included in the text. All content and information provided during evaluation must be kept confidential and should not be used for any other purpose.
Open Access Policy
Letras de Hoje follows an open access policy, providing unrestricted and free access to all content since its first issue.
All published articles are original, unpublished, and licensed under the International Creative Commons Attribution CC BY 4.0 License.
This license guarantees the preservation of authors’ rights and promotes global knowledge exchange. Users are free to read, download, copy, remix, adapt, and transform the texts for any lawful purpose without prior permission from the editor or authors, provided the original authorship is properly acknowledged, with clear and visible citation to the authors and the journal.

Articles published in Letras de Hoje are licensed under the International Creative Commons Attribution CC BY 4.0 License. This means that the content may be shared, copied, distributed, remixed, adapted, and transformed for any lawful purpose, provided the original authorship is acknowledged with clear citation to the authors and the journal.
Preprints
This journal adopts the principles of Open Science, aligning itself with contemporary practices that promote transparency, accessibility, and the dissemination of scientific knowledge. The journal accepts for evaluation manuscripts already available on a reliable preprint server, such as SciELO Preprints, of a non-commercial nature, provided they are not simultaneously undergoing peer review in another journal. The corresponding author must indicate, at the time of submission, whether the text is available on a preprint server and provide the respective DOI.
Search Data
The journal Letras de Hoje suggests that authors deposit their research data in institutional or thematic repositories, such as CIS Consórcio de Informações Sociais. If the research has reused data, we request that the research data be cited and included with the title page of the file.
Principles of Ethics and Good Practices in Scholarly Publishing
Authors retain full authorship and are responsible for the originality of their work. The publisher cannot be held civilly or criminally liable for plagiarism or inappropriate content.
Novelty and Originality
By submitting their manuscript, authors guarantee that the work has not been previously published nor is under review by another journal. Literal copying of previously published passages is not acceptable unless in exceptional cases as a citation. Illustrations and graphics from other sources must be properly credited or accompanied by permissions from copyright holders, when applicable.
Policy on Misconduct in Scientific Publishing
To promote research integrity and strengthen transparency in the process, all material submitted to and published in the journal Letras de Hoje must comply with the Good Practices Guide for Strengthening Ethics in Scientific Publication and the Open Science Compliance Form.
Regarding the retraction policy, in case of misconduct, the journal Letras de Hoje follows the guidelines adopted by the SciELO platform according to the Good Practices Guide and the Guide for the registration and publication of retractions. Retractions will only be published after analysis and authorization by the editorial board.
Conflict of Interest
The journal Letras de Hoje requires all authors to declare any relevant non-financial conflicts of interest. Perceptions of potential conflicts of interest are as important as actual conflicts of interest. Whenever a relationship exists between authors and any public or private organization that could generate a conflict of interest, this possibility is communicated and specified in the article. In the case of no conflicts:
- Reviewers: In the double-blind review system used by Letras de Hoje, the manuscript is sent to reviewers without author identification. However, if the reviewer recognizes the authors or their institution, a conflict of interest may occur. To maintain impartiality, the reviewer must assess whether they can evaluate the manuscript objectively. If any competing interest exists, the reviewer must immediately inform the editor so another reviewer can be assigned.
- Editors: Editors will not participate in decisions concerning manuscripts in which they may have a conflict of interest, such as sharing the same institution or having personal relationships with the authors. Each submission is handled by an editor without any conflict regarding the manuscript or the authors.
Ethics Committee
The journal Letras de Hoje is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and follows its principles of ethics, transparency, and integrity in publication.
Complaints Against the Journal or Editorial Staff
Complaints against the journal or its staff must be submitted first to one of the two Editors-in-Chief, who will conduct an internal review as appropriate. If necessary, additional assistance from the Editorial Board may be requested. The investigation will be carried out promptly and transparently.
