Abstract

Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to investigate how effective work teams organize themselves. The central argument defended by the researchers is that effective work teams organize themselves around goals, roles, rules and procedures that are externally established by the organization. The group self organization is limited by these out side factors, making all the aspects related to the work task more important than those related to human and relationship aspects in the organization of this teams. To accomplish this investigation there were used the principles of topological psychology and group dynamics proposed by Kurt Lewin. The research method chosen is based on a qualitative paradigm. The research design that was adopted was the case study of a twenty one employees group from the administrative and financial sector of a large company in the metal- mechanic sector in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. As the main result, the study suggests an explanatory model that shows how the company influences the organization of an effective work team, analyzing a sequence of explanations, interventions e management manipulations (as the company representative) along the process.
Key words: Team work. Team performance. Team organization.
