Abstract

This special issue, brings together a set of works that critically examine reproductive justice as an analytical key to understanding the multiple forms of inequality, discrimination, and violence that permeate sexual and reproductive rights in the Global South. The proposal emerged from the dialogue between the academic and activist trajectories of the guest editors in the field of feminist and gender studies, and seeks to contribute to the interdisciplinary debate that connects law, sociology, political science, anthropology, and public health. The
collection of articles gathered here demonstrates that reproductive justice is not merely a descriptive concept, but an analytical tool for unveiling the interdependencies between inequalities of gender, race, class, sexuality, and disability, as well as for questioning the functioning of legal, political, and health institutions. By engaging with experiences from the Global South and with transnational debates, the issue reinforces the urgency of rethinking reproductive rights beyond a liberal and individualist perspective, incorporating the collective, structural, and historical dimensions that shape the possibilities of choice and care.
