Social interaction, new media and citizenship: some remarks for an analysis of reconstruction of spoiled identities

Abstract

Different kind of factors can provoke the deterioration of individual’s ability to construct an autonomous self, impacting their capacity for social interaction. With the support of new media some empirical experiences try to rearticulate the deteriorated selves or in process of deterioration. Among the most relevant characteristics of new media, the numerical representation seems to be the central one. The conditions of possibility of citizenship are strongly influenced by the control of symbolic resources, which is critical to establish interactive relations, considered here as a precondition for social recognition. In this sense, relevant seems to be not only the material resources, given by the economic conditions, but especially the symbolic resources controlled by individuals. This paper approaches these issues, through a theoretical discussion.
