Abstract

The research aimed to evaluated and analyze the cognitive and affective characteristics of children diagnosed with autism and that presented normal intelligence, through Rorschach test and Exner Comprehensive System. Children under this condition have deficits in emotional and social development since early ages. Rorschach test was applied to 21boys from 6 years and 6 months to 16 years and 2 months, diagnosed with autism through DSM-IV-TR criteria and showed signs of intelligence in the normal range, measured by Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, third edition. The data showed the existence of a relative integrity of the cognitive perceptual processing. The relational deficit index was positive, exhibiting difficulties in facing the ordinary social demands, compatible with clinical description. Regarding the variables selected to be observed, we found a large variability in many of them, which indicates that one cannot say that part of a specific profile for children with pervasive developmental disorders, being probably in individual characteristics.
