Risk Pattern of Alcohol Comnsumption and Social Skills Among College Students

Abstract

Risk alcohol consumption and social skills among college students college students alcohol misuse is a serious health problem with important outcomes for their development. Moreover the repeated alcohol abusive consumption lead to impairment on. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between alcohol abuse or dependence and the occurrence of deficits on social skills in a sample of college students. Participants were college students (n = 113, mean age 24 years, sd = 5,9). They answered to Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) and Inventário de Habilidades Sociais (IHS). Regarding to binge patterns, 46% (n = 52) of the sample had this pattern of alcohol use and 26,5% (n = 30) had problematic drinking. Besides, 29,2% (n = 33) presented deficits on social skills. The development of policies and strategies to prevent alcohol abuse among college students including training in social skills would be relevant.
