The Three Words-Three Shapes Test (3W3S) is a quick and multidimensional task for the assessment of the episodic memory, developed for the elderly population. 3W3S may occupy an intermediary position in the assessment of aged individuals, between the MMSE memory item and more complex figural and word list tasks. Psychometric characteristics of the Brazilian adaptation of 3W3S for samples of 99 cognitive normal elderly and 33 demographically matched Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) patients were investigated. Additionally, performance norms for 350 cognitive normal elderly were also developed. Results showed high reliability (α = 0,89) and discriminative power for the identification of cognitive disorders associated to AD (AUC = 0,98; sensibility/specificity = 94,9/92,3%). Correlations were observed with the Mini Mental State Exam and with the Frontal Assessment Battery (r = 0,65 and r = 0,46; p < 0,05). A logistic model disclosed significant influence of schooling (β = 0,06; p < 0,05) and age (β = 0,13; p < 0,05). Results suggests psychometric adequacy of the instrument.Downloads
