Abstract

Game Theory is a mathematical approach that analyses formally conflict and cooperation. It is a scientific approach applicable to the construction of knowledge in many different areas such as Economy, Politics, Biology, Psychology and Sociology. We present in this article its application to the study of cooperation from an evolutionary approach and we believe this methodology can help researchers to understand the mechanisms that lead us to collaborate or to cheat in our social interactions. A theoretical description and a a few examples of its application are presented.

Psicóloga, mestrado e doutora em psicobilogia pela Universidade Federal do Rio grande do Norte. É professora do curso de psicologia da Faculdade de ciências, cultura e extensão do Rio Grande do Norte e Psicóloga da Secretaria Municipal de Saúde de Natal/RN

Maria Emília Yamamoto, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN)

Psicóloga, mestrado e doutorado em Psicobiologia pela Universidade Federal de São Paulo e pós-doutorado pela University of Reading, UK. É professora titular da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte. Tem experiência nas áreas de Comportamento Animal, no estudo de primatas e peixes, e de Psicologia Evolucionista. É, atualmente, coordenadora do Projeto do Instituto do Milênio em Psicologia Evolucionista.
