The Production and Use of a Documentary About Sexual Violence Against Boys
Keywords:
Sexual violence, boys, documentary.Abstract
The preventative and therapeutic strategies related to sexual violence (SV) against children and adolescents have been primarily focused on the female population while SV against boys is rarely examined. Initiatives on this theme must be developed in order to contribute towards greater identification and notification of such cases, as well as to develop more effective psychosocial interventions. Given this, this article describes the production and use of a documentary about SV against boys as a psychotherapeutic intervention strategy for these cases. The scientific foundation acting as the guide for the examined content as well as the importance of consulting already-created audiovisual materials about SV were important aspects in this documentary’s production process. The utilization of the documentary in the psychological treatment of three boys indicated its aptitude for facilitating, in a psychotherapeutic context, the revelation of the SV they suffered.Downloads
